ACTION STATIONS!

Postby Lucien Nunes » Sun Nov 08, 2015 1:07 pm

We're going in. After a long period of inactivity due to 'unavoidable circumstances' Electrokinetica projects restart next weekend. Eloise and I will be revisiting the opening event plans this week. I will keep this updated...

Hi Lucien, glad to hear you're well. You did cross my mind the other day when I was wandering round backstage at the Prince Edward theatre.
Let us know how we can get involved.
Cheers, Rob.

Thanks for the offer Rob! The immediate priorities are sorting out storage and weeding out scrap and surplus, involving rather a lot of heavy lift-and-shift work. There's pallet racking to take down and put back up in the next room, two freight containers to decant, etc. All the low-priority stuff needs to be got out of the way of display areas and the major items such as freestanding plant laid out as per the (rather optimistic) floor plan.

Then there are displays to make - ranging from slapping a coat of gloss on a sheet of plywood and screwing on a bunch of electrical fittings, to building pedestals and rostra to mount particular artefacts. As an example, we have a lovely sectioned HV underground cable joint, but it's about 6' long and rather heavy. It needs a stand, with spaces to display the other cable specimens and an information panel. Like items need to be brought together - a quick search of the database reveals 8-bit micros in one room, PCs and accessories in another, monitors mainly in another - when all the demonstration examples really need to be lined up on tables in a single room to form a display.

Finally there's the rather more technical task of making workable things work and providing interpretation for them. This is the reward for having finished the previous phases!

I'll give warning of all potentially interesting missions and projects...

Right, we're back in action. First project is to relocate domestic appliances from London to Suffolk. Anyone who fancies a bit of back-brekaing lift'n'shift with cookers and fridges please message me and we'll fix up a day!
